6 Months with a Microsoft Surface Book
For the last 6 months I have been using a Microsoft Surface Book as my primary laptop. In that time it has proved to be an excellent device.
- Build quality is top notch.
- Battery life is excellent.
- Because I have the i7 model with 16GB RAM, speed is good.
- The dock allows one cable connection to my dual monitors and wired ethernet.
Overall I have been happy with the change from traditional laptop to Surface Book. The Ubuntu subsystem for Windows makes me feel at home in the command line and Hyper-V allows me to run full Linux installs if needed. Here is what I have:
The Surface dock has two mini display port adapters. I had some issues getting two 1920x1080 HDMI connected monitors working correctly until I changed to active mini-DP to HDMI adapters. These have worked well for me:
I have an Arc Touch mouse, but I find the trackpad very good and the mouse does not fit my hand so well. Even through it is in my bag, I rarely use it.
Update: 2017-06-15
As with most things, with time, my setup has changed someone. I now have a dual monitor stand with two 23" LCD displays on my desk.
In addition to the monitors, I have a wireless keyboard and mouse.
Slightly smaller version that is better for taking with you.
